The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed the interdicted headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, to step aside from the Juaben Constituency chairmanship race to allow for an unhindered investigation into allegations against him.
The party said the decision was taken by its Functional Executive Committee (FEC) in the overriding interest of transparency and accountability.
In a press release dated Tuesday, October 20, 2026, and signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC said the directive followed further consideration of its earlier position on Mr Abdulai’s candidature.

The party explained that the decision was intended to allow the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to investigate the allegations without obstruction.
However, the NDC stressed that the directive should not be interpreted as a determination of the merits of the allegations against Mr Abdulai, noting that he remains entitled to the presumption of innocence.
The party also expressed confidence that the CID would conduct a thorough, fair and expeditious investigation, adding that it would be guided by the outcome.
The Ashanti Regional Election Committee and the Juaben Constituency Election Committee have been directed to take note of the decision and act accordingly.
