The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is considering recalling Parliament to compel the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct an urgent audit of the voter’s register ahead of the 2024 elections.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, voiced the party’s growing alarm over irregularities and potential tampering within the current register, which he believes jeopardizes the integrity of the election process.
Addressing a nationwide demonstration in Accra, Dr. Forson stressed the necessity of the audit to ensure the elections are conducted fairly and transparently.
He detailed alarming discrepancies in his own constituency, where about 3,000 unauthorized names had been added, contributing to a bloated register with approximately 5,000 extra names.
This, he asserts, calls for immediate Parliamentary intervention to rectify the issue and restore confidence in the electoral system.
Dr. Forson emphasized that the NDC’s push for an audit reflects their unwavering commitment to a peaceful and credible election.
He urged the EC to act swiftly and transparently, warning that the recall of Parliament is merely the beginning of their efforts to ensure electoral accountability.
He rallied Ghanaians to hold the EC accountable and ensure every vote counts in the upcoming elections.
