Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has disclosed that the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) will monitor and assess the implementation of the government’s US$10 billion New Economy programme.
He said the NDPC’s involvement will be crucial to tracking the progress of the initiative and evaluating its implementation as the government rolls out the programme.
Dr. Ato Forson made the disclosure on Monday, September 7, 2026, when he engaged the leadership of the NDPC, led by its Chairman, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson.

The engagement forms part of preparations towards the government’s planned unveiling of the full details of the New Economy programme in the 2027 Budget, which is expected to be presented in November.
The Finance Minister said the programme represents the government’s next phase of its economic agenda, following efforts to restore stability to the economy.
Rather than focusing solely on economic stabilisation, the government intends to use the New Economy agenda to increase production, create jobs and generate wealth.
“Through the New Economy agenda that we will unveil, we will build an economy that does not merely withstand shocks but creates jobs, generates wealth, and grows on the strength of what Ghana produces,” he stated.
Dr. Ato Forson stressed that economic stabilisation was only a necessary foundation for the government’s broader transformation agenda.
“Stabilization was never the destination. It was the price of entry. Ghana has paid that price. What comes next is the work that changes lives at scale, the work of transformation,” he said.
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the New Economy programme will involve a US$10 billion investment in key sectors of the economy.
The President has indicated that the 2027 Budget will provide the full details of the programme, including the government’s plans for deploying the investment towards economic transformation.
