The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed a significant GH¢270 million to hospitals across the country, covering claims submitted and vetted up to October and part of November 2024.
This latest payment, announced on January 3 by NHIA Chief Executive Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, falls within the three-month reimbursement period and confirms that the NHIA has no outstanding claims at the moment.
Dr. Aboagye emphasized the Authority’s commitment to timely and efficient payments, stating, “This latest payment brings the total amount released by the NHIA over the past four months to over GH¢1.2 billion, reinforcing the Authority’s ongoing commitment to supporting healthcare providers and ensuring the sustainability of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).”
The NHIA’s financial support to healthcare providers has been consistent, with several major disbursements in recent months.
On December 1, 2024, the NHIA allocated GH¢200 million for claims covering September and part of October 2024.
Prior to that, over GH¢335 million was released on October 9 for August 2024 claims, and in September, GH¢402 million was distributed to cover June and July 2024 claims.
In his statement, Dr. Aboagye urged healthcare facilities to submit their claims promptly, stressing that claims should not cover a period exceeding 90 days.
