The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has begun offering free dialysis treatment at 20 hospitals across Ghana, starting December 1.
This initiative seeks to alleviate the financial burden on kidney patients and is part of the government’s broader commitment to improving healthcare access nationwide.
The selected hospitals span various regions, ensuring that patients from all parts of the country can benefit.
In the Greater Accra Region, facilities such as Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, Ridge Regional Hospital, Ghana Police Hospital, Trust Hospital Premium Centre, International Maritime Hospital, and Newtown Islamic Hospital Ltd. are providing the service.
The Ashanti Region’s Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and FirstCare Hospital, alongside the Western Region’s Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital and Takoradi Hospital, have also been designated for the programme.
The Volta Region’s Ho Teaching Hospital and Hohoe’s Volta Regional Hospital, as well as the Central and Eastern regions’ Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and Eastern Regional Hospital, are included.
Patients in the five Northern Regions will be served by the Tamale Teaching Hospital and the Regional Hospitals in Bolgatanga and Wa.
The Bono Region’s Holy Family Hospital has also been listed.
This initiative reflects the government’s resolve to address the growing health crisis posed by kidney diseases, with the NHIA urging patients to take full advantage of the free services offered.
