Local Governance Expert, Richard Fiadomor, has condemned the arson attack on the Talensi Constituency office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing it as an unacceptable reaction to the nomination of a District Chief Executive.
Speaking on ABC News GH, Fiadomor emphasized that the President’s prerogative in appointing DCEs must be respected, warning that no level of agitation should justify such violence.
“We should not condone it at any level,” he said.
“The fact that you were not selected does not mean the world should come to an end.”
The attack, which occurred at dawn on Saturday, is believed to have been carried out by disgruntled party foot soldiers upset over the selection of John Millim Naabwomya as the DCE.
Police in the Upper East Region have launched an investigation into the suspected arson, though no arrests have been made.
The constituency secretary, Augustine Guure, acknowledged ongoing agitation but stated that it remains unclear who is responsible for the fire.
“It’s difficult to confirm these claims as the perpetrators have not yet been identified,” he noted.
Fiadomor cautioned against creating a culture of entitlement in local political appointments, noting that district development must not hinge on individuals’ ambitions.
“No one is indispensable to the effect that if he is not made the Chief Executive, the district cannot move on,” he stressed.
He called on party leadership to enforce discipline and ensure that democratic processes are upheld, even when decisions do not favour everyone.
