Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister-designate, firmly stated that the government has no intention of seeking additional support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
“My priority as a minister will be low prices, stable cedi, and jobs,” Forson declared. He noted that inflation, currently at 28.3%, is largely driven by food prices.
To address this, he pledged to allocate resources in consultation with the cabinet to support agricultural policies aimed at making food cheaper.
Additionally, Forson committed to abolishing the E-Levy immediately, a key part of his economic agenda.
“My commitment has not changed; it must be abolished and will be abolished immediately,” he said. Forson also outlined a strategy to reduce inflation to 8% and stabilize the cedi, emphasizing the need for coordinated fiscal and monetary efforts.
