The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has firmly rejected allegations that Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 election was coerced.

Alhaji Masawudu, the 3rd Vice Chair of the NPP, emphasized that Abudu’s choice to step down was voluntary and in support of the party’s strategic goals.

“I don’t think Hajia Lariba will be ungrateful to the party to say she has gone independent,” Masawudu remarked.

He affirmed that Abudu’s withdrawal was a gesture of solidarity, aimed at bolstering the NPP’s position in Walewale.

Masawudu praised Abudu’s commitment and described her action as a patriotic move in favor of the party’s success.

“She has no intention to go independent. So in case Hajia Lariba stepped down willingly with no condition, and pledged to support Abdul-Karibu to win the seat of Walewale to shame the NDC,” he said.

The NPP views Abudu’s departure as a strategic advantage, enhancing their prospects in the Walewale constituency.

Following Abudu’s exit, the NPP has officially nominated Dr. Tia Abdul-Karibu Mahama as their candidate for Walewale.

NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong announced that the National Executive Committee had unanimously approved Mahama, underlining the party’s confidence in his candidacy.

The party’s leadership has urged all members to unite behind Mahama to secure a decisive victory in the upcoming elections.

Addressing concerns about recent disturbances during the Walewale rerun, Masawudu dismissed any remaining issues, attributing the chaos to the actions of two individuals.

He reassured that the situation is under control and expressed confidence in a smooth and successful campaign.
