Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has lashed out at the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing it of abandoning its founding values in favor of money-driven politics.
Speaking during a fiery interview on ABC in the Morning, the former Head of the Political Science Department at KNUST said the party has been hijacked by individuals who equate power with personal gain, while genuine service and loyalty are ignored.
“The party is no longer about values. It’s about money. That’s what drives it now,” he declared.
According to Dr. Amoako Baah, this culture of monetisation has enabled and protected corrupt individuals, including Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, whom he accused of amassing unexplained wealth.
“The party should take a position. They should know right from wrong,” he added, reinforcing his earlier call for an internal purge.
He argued that the lack of moral clarity and discipline within the party structure is at the heart of the NPP’s declining reputation.
These sharp criticisms come at a crucial time for the NPP, which is set to host its National Delegates Conference amid internal divisions, growing public scrutiny, and electoral setbacks.
The fallout from Ablekuma North, where the party lost its seat for the first time in the Fourth Republic, has intensified calls for introspection and reform.
Dr. Amoako Baah insists that unless the NPP stops rewarding wealth and starts rewarding merit and service, “its collapse will not be political—it will be ethical and moral.”
He cautioned party leaders not to dismiss internal critics but to treat their warnings as a roadmap for survival.
“When you value money over merit, you breed chaos, you breed corruption, and you lose the trust of the people,” he said, urging delegates at the upcoming conference to set the tone for true reform.
