Dickson Adomako Kissi, MP for Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency, has defended the recent $300 million tax waivers granted to over 40 companies in Ghana, emphasizing that such measures are common under pro-business governments.
Speaking on ABC News Ghana on Friday, September 6, 2024, he stated that these waivers create an enabling environment for businesses and investors alike.
“It is not unusual for a government that is pro-business to use this as a way of creating an enabling environment for businesses to work. And an enabling environment for investors to feel comfortable working in this country,” Adomako Kissi explained, reinforcing the importance of the policy for economic growth.
His comments come amid strong opposition from the minority in Parliament, who have refused to support the tax waivers.
The minority contends that the exemptions disproportionately benefit companies aligned with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Adomako Kissi refuted these claims, arguing that the tax exemptions are not politically motivated.
He cited examples of companies that received similar exemptions under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, stressing that the policy is focused on fostering business growth rather than favoring any particular political party.
