The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially opened nominations for its 2026 presidential primaries.
The party announced on Tuesday, July 29, that interested aspirants must submit their applications by August 28, 2025.
Each candidate is required to pay a non-refundable application fee of GHS100,000.
According to NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the presidential primaries are scheduled to take place on January 31, 2026.
The opening of nominations signals the beginning of internal competition within the ruling party, as potential candidates begin to position themselves to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The announcement comes at a time when the party is working to consolidate its base and strengthen internal democracy ahead of the next general elections.
In a related statement, the NPP cautioned the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) against politicising the ongoing chieftaincy tensions in Bawku.
Frimpong criticised the NDC for allegedly attempting to link the ruling party to violence in the area during the 2024 election season, describing the accusations as “irresponsible.”
