National Executive Committee Member of the National Democratic Congress, Nii Tan Sackey, has dismissed the presidential candidature of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, insisting that the former Vice President poses no threat to the NDC ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on ABC In The Morning, Nii Tan Sackey said the NDC is unfazed by Dr. Bawumia’s victory in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primary, describing the development as a welcome outcome for the ruling party.
“For us we are happy because Dr Bawumia is not a match for anyone in the NDC,” he stated.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s record in government undermines any attempt to present himself as a credible alternative to the Ghanaian electorate. He accused the former Vice President of presiding over Ghana’s recent economic difficulties.
“He’s a man who supervised severe debt distress for this country’ He’s a man who supervised the collapse of public confidence in our economic management,” Nii Tan Sackey said.
The NDC executive further criticised the economic team that operated under Dr. Bawumia’s supervision, arguing that their performance contradicted earlier assurances given to Ghanaians.
“He is the same person who said they have a strong team who will manage the economy and yet they left, and we have realise the economy can be managed better,” he added.
While acknowledging Dr. Bawumia’s success within the governing party, Nii Tan Sackey expressed confidence that the NDC will secure victory in the next general elections.
“While we congratulate him for winning, we are happy 2028 is a sure win for us,” he said.
