The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has endorsed Solomon Kwame Asumadu, the Chief Executive Officer of Owuo Mining Company, as its parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
The decision to back Mr. Asumadu was arrived at through consensus, following extensive consultations with party stakeholders and the local community.
The party officially announced the endorsement during a press conference held on July 28, 2025, addressed by Eastern Regional NPP Chairman, Jeff Konadu Addo.
According to Mr. Konadu Addo, the party conducted both a search and research exercise to determine the most suitable candidate.
“We commissioned a search and a research. We gave them a number of names to go to the community to determine who the candidate should be,” he explained, highlighting the inclusive and grassroots-led process that led to Mr. Asumadu’s selection.
General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Kodua, affirmed the party’s stance, stressing that it was united and fully prepared for the by-election. “Through consensus, we agreed to one person, and we must commend the committee,” he noted.
Mr. Kodua further emphasized the party’s readiness, declaring, “We are ready,” as he underscored the unity and determination within the NPP ahead of the polls.
The consensus approach eliminated the need for primaries, a move the party said was widely supported by members in the Akwatia constituency. With Solomon Asumadu officially outdoored, the NPP is now focused on securing victory in the by-election and retaining the Akwatia seat in Parliament.
