The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended its 2024 parliamentary candidate for Agona West, Christopher Arthur, for violating a standing directive from the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, which bans internal campaign activities for party positions.
The directive is part of a broader strategy to maintain internal unity as the party prepares for the upcoming general elections.
In a disciplinary letter signed by Agona West Constituency Secretary Anthony Kwame Kum and Chairman Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, Arthur was cited for convening an electoral area meeting on Sunday, July 6, 2025 — an act the party described as a clear breach of internal regulations and administrative indiscipline.
The letter emphasized that such actions go against the spirit of cooperation expected from party members.
“Your action not only disregards the authority of the General Secretary but also undermines internal unity and the strategic work being done to strengthen the party ahead of the next general election,” the letter warned.
The party has not yet announced the duration of Arthur’s suspension, but the incident adds to growing concerns over discipline and order within the NPP’s ranks as the 2028 election cycle approaches.
