Dr. Samuel Afriyie, a Political Scientist has raised concerns over the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), arguing that the party’s current structure is unable to hold together effectively.
Speaking to ABC News GH, he attributed the party’s setbacks in the recent Akwatia by-election to the inability of its executives to steer the party toward victory.
“The defeat still indicates that the party have still put themselves together,” he said, adding pointedly, “The centre is not holding, because the chairman is not capable.”
According to Dr. Afriyie, the party’s leadership lacks the capacity to manage elections successfully and, as a result, has not been able to maintain cohesion among members.
He compared the situation to past experiences in the opposition NDC, noting that political mismanagement is not unique to any single party.
Dr. Afriyie emphasized that for the NPP to regain strength, it must critically evaluate its current executives and consider leadership changes to make the party more competitive and appealing to voters.
