The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated processes to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng from the party following comments he made in a recent television interview.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it had taken “due notice” of remarks made by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026.

According to the party, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng described the NPP as a “fake party” during the interview and stated that he no longer considers himself a member of the party. The statement further noted that he made additional disparaging comments, including allegations that the party’s 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.

The NPP categorically rejected the claims, describing them as baseless and unsubstantiated. The party insisted that the 2023 presidential primary was conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, and said the process had been widely acknowledged as such by all candidates who took part, as well as by well-meaning party members.

“The Party unequivocally rejects Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s unfortunate characterization of the NPP,” the statement said, adding that his allegations regarding the conduct of the primary were without merit.

The party described Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s conduct and utterances as “highly reprehensible” and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the NPP. As a result, it said it has invoked the relevant provisions of its constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the party, in strict adherence to due process.

The NPP did not provide further details on the timeline or specific procedures involved in the expulsion process but stressed its commitment to upholding party discipline and constitutional provisions.

Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng is a former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and a prominent member of the NPP prior to the latest developments.
