The Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced his intention to scrap the controversial e-levy on mobile transactions by March 2025, should he be elected as President.
Speaking at a media engagement in Accra on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia revealed that the removal of the levy will be part of his first budget presentation to Parliament, aimed at fostering a business-friendly environment crucial for job creation and economic growth.
“The e-levy will have to go by March as we present our first budget, given our focus on digitalization as we take off,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
Dr. Bawumia also outlined plans for significant tax reforms within the first three months of his administration, including the introduction of a flat tax rate and a tax amnesty.
He emphasized that these reforms are essential to support business growth and to create employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.
“The new tax reforms—the flat rate regime and the tax amnesty—will also be introduced immediately, as we are committed to supporting businesses to grow,” Dr. Bawumia assured, highlighting the urgency of implementing these changes to stimulate economic transformation in Ghana.
