The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road crash that claimed sixteen lives along the Atwedie-Asankare stretch of the N6 Highway on Monday, 28th July 2025.
In an official statement released by its management, the Authority conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and all affected associations, while also wishing the injured victims a full and speedy recovery.
According to the NRSA, the fatal incident involved a Ford Transit Bus with registration number GT 4674-22 and a DAF XF articulated tanker truck with registration number GT 1674-17.
The severity of the collision has once again highlighted the urgent need for consistent enforcement of traffic laws across the country.
In response, the Authority is advocating for intensified enforcement measures by the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to curb the alarming rise in fatal road crashes.
The NRSA emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to road safety regulations, including compliance with speed limits, proper vehicle maintenance, and responsible driving behavior.
“The safety of every road user remains a shared responsibility,” the statement read.
The Authority reaffirmed its ongoing collaboration with key stakeholders such as the Ghana Police Service, transport unions, and civil society actors to improve road safety outcomes nationwide.
It noted that protecting lives on Ghana’s roads remains a central priority and that sustained efforts are being made to reduce both the frequency and severity of crashes.
As the nation mourns the victims of the Atwedie tragedy, the NRSA’s call for vigilance and accountability on the roads serves as a crucial reminder of the dangers of non-compliance with traffic rules.
The Authority remains committed to proactive measures and stakeholder engagement to make Ghana’s roads safer for all.
