NRSA Warns Public Over Safety Concerns Regarding Toyota Voxy Vans for Long-Distance Travel

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has issued a public notice highlighting potential safety risks associated with the use of Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial passenger transport in Ghana.

According to the Authority in a press release issued on Wednesday 14th January, 2026, many of these vehicles were originally manufactured as right-hand drive (RHD) and later converted to left-hand drive (LHD) after importation.

Preliminary reports suggest that some converted vehicles may face handling and stability issues, particularly at higher speeds and around curves, raising concerns about their suitability for long-distance commercial operations.

In response, the NRSA has constituted a Technical Working Group (TWG) to thoroughly investigate the matter and provide recommendations for regulatory action.

While investigations are ongoing, the Authority is urging motorists and passengers to exercise heightened caution when using Toyota Voxy vehicles, especially those that have undergone RHD-to-LHD conversion.

The NRSA emphasized that this advisory is a precautionary measure and does not constitute a final ruling on the safety or roadworthiness of any vehicle category.

Road users are encouraged to make informed decisions in the interest of personal safety while the TWG conducts its review.
