The headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, has pledged to pursue all lawful means to clear his name following allegations of sexual abuse involving female students at the school.
His commitment comes after he resigned as Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Juaben Constituency and withdrew from the race for the constituency chairmanship.
In a letter dated October 20 and addressed to the NDC General Secretary, Mr Abdulai said both decisions took immediate effect, explaining that he needed to focus on addressing the allegations against him.
“At this time, I intend to devote my attention and resources to pursuing all lawful avenues to clear my name and vindicate my position. I remain hopeful that, once these matters are resolved, I will be able to return to active political engagement and continue contributing to the ideals and aspirations of the NDC,” he stated.

Mr Abdulai also expressed appreciation to friends, relatives and supporters who have continued to stand by him, maintaining that he is innocent of the allegations.
“I wish to express my profound gratitude to my friends, relatives, and all well-wishers who have stood by me and maintained their faith in my innocence in the face of the allegations levelled against me and my office,” he said.
He further thanked the NDC for giving him the opportunity to serve the party and contribute to its growth and development.
The allegations, which reportedly involve more than 14 female students, have generated public concern and calls for accountability and a thorough investigation into the matter.
The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has also called for the removal of Mr Abdulai and Ghana Education Service (GES) officials in Obuasi over their alleged handling of complaints relating to the case.
NAGRAT President Jacob Anaba has alleged that concerns about the headmaster’s conduct were brought to the attention of the relevant authorities before the case became public, questioning how the complaints were handled by education officials in Obuasi.
His resignation letter was copied to the NDC National Chairman and the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman.
The allegations remain subject to investigation.
