Hohoe United continued to make waves in their first top-flight campaign, producing another statement performance as they edged Asante Kotoko 1-0 on Sunday in a memorable showdown at the Hohoe Sports Stadium.
The atmosphere inside the venue was electric long before kickoff, and the newly promoted side channelled that energy into a disciplined and spirited display. Kotoko, traditionally one of the league’s most composed teams, struggled to adapt to the artificial surface and never looked fully settled, a concern that now extends their winless streak to four matches.
The decisive moment arrived in the 24th minute through a touch of brilliance from William Oduro. The midfielder stepped up over a free-kick and curled a stunning effort into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Mohammed Camara rooted to the spot as the crowd erupted.
Kotoko emerged from the break with urgency, but their forward play lacked sharpness. The Porcupine Warriors created few meaningful openings and continued to look out of sorts in the final third, offering little to trouble the Hohoe defence.
With the defeat, Kotoko remain in fifth place, now five points adrift of the league leaders as they prepare for a challenging home fixture against Dreams FC.
Hohoe United, on the other hand, are riding a wave of momentum. Back-to-back victories have propelled them into 9th position, and they will seek to stretch their impressive run when they travel to take on Berekum Chelsea next.
