The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, has donated relief items to victims of the recent flooding in her constituency.
Presenting the items, Hon. Lardi conveyed greetings from President John Dramani Mahama.
“The President said he is very sad about the flooding that made you lose properties and lives. We all know that it’s not only Alogboshie that was affected, but the entire country,” she said.
She appealed to Ghanaians to desist from politicizing the disaster.
“Disaster does not know NPP or NDC. When there is flooding the water won’t ask of your political colours. So those of you who want to politicize the situation should stop,” the MP stated.
Hon. Lardi described Alogboshie as the worst-hit area, where several people lost their lives.
“Yesterday I went to visit some parents. One of them, the flood took away her two children. We have found one and the other one is yet to be found. One other man has lost his wife, three children and several others. Some dead bodies we’ve seen, while some are still yet to be found,” she recounted emotionally.
She urged survivors to be grateful for life.
“So if you are here alive and you only lost properties, you have to thank God for your life because money can’t buy life, but can buy properties,” the MP stated.
The MP noted that flooding is a national and global challenge due to climate change, citing Takoradi, Obuasi and parts of the Central Region, as well as some parts of America.
She advised residents to be careful and avoid living in waterlogged areas.
