A soldier has been confirmed dead, and four others are battling for their lives following a ghastly accident at Saka near Zebilla on the Bawku-Bolgatanga highway.
The tragic incident occurred when a light-armoured military vehicle, with registration number 21GA39, lost control and somersaulted multiple times.
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident happened after the vehicle’s left rear tyre dislodged while in motion.
The military personnel were on escort duties to Bawku when the unfortunate event occurred. Before police officers from Zebilla arrived at the scene, local residents were already assisting in rescuing the trapped victims.
The injured soldiers were later evacuated by the police and transported to the Zebilla District Hospital for urgent medical attention.
This incident adds to a growing concern over military vehicle accidents in the region.
On October 16, 2024, a similar crash at Bazua in the Binduri District claimed the life of another soldier, raising questions about the safety and maintenance of military transport vehicles.
