Organised Labour has officially called off its nationwide strike following a breakthrough in negotiations regarding the sale of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) shares in four hotels.
The strike, which commenced on Monday, saw widespread disruption as workers protested against the controversial sale of 60 per cent of SSNIT’s stake.
The decision to halt the industrial action came after SSNIT announced the termination of the sale in a letter dated 12th July 2024.
Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress, conveyed the resolution at an emergency meeting held in Accra today.
“We have decided to end the strike and urge all workers to resume their duties from tomorrow, 16th July,” Dr. Baah stated.
He further emphasized that Organised Labour had given SSNIT a one-month ultimatum to address pension management concerns. Dr. Baah warned, “If SSNIT fails to comply, we will be left with no choice but to take further action.”
He concluded by expressing gratitude to all supporters and reiterated Organised Labour’s commitment to safeguarding worker interests in Ghana.
