The Electoral Commission (EC) has released provisional statistics indicating that a total of 18,772,795 valid voters are expected to participate in the upcoming December general elections.
Among these, 9,690,173 are females, while 9,082,622 are males. This significant turnout highlights the enthusiasm and commitment of citizens to engage in the democratic process.
The data further reveals that 708,282 new voters have been added to the electoral roll for the December elections.
In addition, there are 332,110 transferred voters, 2,167 proxy voters, 32,974 applicants on the exceptions list, and 26,798 applicants on the multiples list.
These figures emphasize the dynamic nature of the electoral landscape and the importance of ensuring that all eligible voters have the opportunity to participate.
During an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra on Tuesday, October 1, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa addressed concerns regarding the voter register.
She announced that the commission has largely resolved errors in the register, stressing that it is not final and acknowledging that some imperfections remain.
Mensa assured stakeholders that these errors are not uncommon in any registration process and reiterated the EC’s commitment to rectifying them in preparation for a smooth electoral process.
