The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has announced plans to delist over 505,000 business names and companies from its register by the end of December 2024.
This move targets entities that have failed to file their annual returns, despite receiving a one-year grace period and multiple reminders.
Registrar Jemima Mamaa Oware highlighted that the delisting aims to improve compliance and the integrity of the ORC’s registry.
She also revealed that the initiative is part of broader efforts to modernise the ORC’s operations, which include a transition to a fully digital system by April 2025.
This digital system will streamline processes such as business registration, renewals, and filing returns, making them more accessible and efficient.
Oware also cautioned businesses at risk of delisting to act promptly and update their records.
Non-compliance with the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) could result in severe consequences, including a 12-year prohibition on reusing delisted names without a court order.
The modernization of the ORC’s services is expected to improve transparency, reduce manual interventions, and enhance overall business operations across Ghana.
