The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has disclosed that the devastating Adum Bluelight fire incident in Kumasi destroyed over GHC900 million in startup capital alone.
Speaking at an event to mark International Firefighters Day at Atonsu on May 5, 2025, he emphasized the scale of the disaster, which displaced more than 2,000 traders and destroyed properties worth millions of cedis in March.
Dr. Amoakohene also highlighted the broader challenge of fire outbreaks in the region, noting that another recent incident at Konongo resulted in damages estimated at GHC10 million.
Despite these setbacks, he commended the Ghana National Fire Service for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the region.
He further assured the officers of continued government support, revealing that previously non-functional fire tenders have been repaired and more equipment is being procured to enhance their response capacity.
