Parliament will resume its sitting today, Tuesday, June 11, for the second meeting of the Fourth Session, after an abrupt adjournment in March.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin adjourned the House on March 20, 2024, following an extensive response to a letter from the Presidency. The letter had cautioned Parliament against transmitting the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly known as the anti-gay bill, to the President for assent.
In the wake of the unexpected adjournment, the Majority Caucus petitioned Speaker Bagbin on May 3, 2024, urging an urgent reconvening of Parliament to address key government business.
Among the pressing issues to be tackled are the adoption of the Thirty-Fourth Report of the Appointments Committee and a motion concerning additional financing.
A letter from the Office of the Speaker, however, has recalled Members of Parliament from recess for proceedings to commence today.
