Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has called on political parties and independent candidates to manage their expectations and prioritize peace ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Speaking during a police briefing on November 21, 2024, with representatives of all political parties, the IGP emphasized the importance of maintaining stability in what he described as a win-or-lose contest.
The meeting, organized by the election security task force, was aimed at outlining preparations to ensure a secure electoral process.
The briefing was conducted in two phases, with the first offering political parties an open platform to share their security concerns and expectations for the elections.
In a subsequent closed-door session, task force members provided detailed reassurances on election security.
Following the meeting, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua expressed confidence in the task force’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful election, cautioning individuals against attempting to disrupt the process.
NDC Director of Elections Dr. Omane Boamah also lauded the police for their decision to prohibit the use of weapons during the electoral period. He described the measure as critical for maintaining calm and order.
The briefing underscored the police’s dedication to fostering collaboration with political parties while preparing for a fair and violence-free election on December 7, 2024.
