Former Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority Board, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, has been released from detention by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) following an investigation into financial matters during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF).
His release was confirmed by his legal counsel, Ken Kuranchie, who disclosed that the professor had been questioned regarding certain financial approvals made during his time at GIIF.
According to Kuranchie, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was at home on Sunday morning when a group of men arrived in three pickup trucks and informed him that he was needed at the NIB.
The former board chairman voluntarily accompanied them to the NIB head office before being transferred to the bureau’s offices in Kawukudi, Accra, where he was held for further questioning.
The nature of the investigation remains undisclosed, but sources indicate it relates to financial decisions taken during his leadership at GIIF.
While no formal charges have been announced, the case has sparked public interest, with many awaiting further developments. Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, a respected academic and politician, has yet to make a public statement regarding the incident.
