The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested 258 people in connection with the violent disturbances that erupted at Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region on July 7, 2026.
The arrests were made during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted by the Regional Command and officers from the National Operations Directorate as part of efforts to restore calm and identify those allegedly involved in the unrest.
Police say preliminary investigations suggest that groups of young people went on a rampage during the disturbances, allegedly looting shops, setting an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer ablaze, vandalising the Oko Anadwo Palace and an astro turf facility, and robbing several mobile money vendors.
The incidents reportedly triggered widespread panic among residents and disrupted normal activities in the community.
The operation also led to the retrieval of two locally manufactured firearms, quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, suspected tramadol and Viagra tablets, as well as several mobile phones believed to be relevant to the ongoing investigations.
According to the Police, all 258 suspects remain in custody and are assisting investigators as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the violence.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has assured residents that security has been reinforced across the area to protect lives and property and prevent any further disturbances.
The Command further appealed to the public to volunteer credible information that could aid the investigations by reporting to the nearest police station.
It also urged residents, particularly young people, to remain law-abiding and avoid actions capable of undermining public peace and security.
