The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old trader, Issaka Mohammed, for allegedly possessing 37 slabs of compressed dried plant material suspected to be Indian hemp.
The arrest was made by the Ashaiman District Police on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., following intelligence received by Motorbike Patrol officers about a suspected Indian hemp dealer operating at a “ghetto” behind the New Tulaku Cow Market.
According to the Police, officers proceeded to the area and intercepted Mohammed, who was in possession of a sack.
A search of the sack led to the discovery of 37 slabs of compressed dried plant material suspected to be Indian hemp.
The exhibits were counted in the presence of the suspect and have been retained by the Police for evidential purposes.
Mohammed is currently assisting the Police with investigations and is expected to be put before the court as soon as practicable.
The Tema Regional Police Command has urged the public to continue providing credible information on persons involved in the possession, sale and distribution of Indian hemp and other illicit drugs to support efforts to combat drug-related offences.
