A 52-year-old man, Ibrahim Saani, has been arrested by the Tema Regional Police Command for allegedly possessing 37 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp at New York, near Airport Junction.
The arrest followed an intelligence-led police operation in the area at about 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

According to a police statement issued on Tuesday, October 27, officers retrieved a bag containing the 37 parcels of compressed substances and a crusher during the operation.

The suspect was subsequently escorted to the police station with the exhibits to assist investigations.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Saani may have been involved in distributing suspected narcotic substances in New York and surrounding communities.
The police further indicated that intelligence gathered suggested he allegedly feigned madness to conceal his suspected activities.
The seized substances are to be forwarded for forensic examination to establish their nature and support further investigations into the possible involvement of other persons.
The police said the suspect and any accomplices identified would be arraigned before the court after investigations are completed.
The Tema Regional Police Command has urged the public to report credible information on the possession, distribution and trafficking of illicit drugs to the nearest police station.
It also called for continued public cooperation in efforts to combat drug-related offences and protect communities, particularly the youth.
