The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect for allegedly possessing and transporting a large quantity of compressed plant materials suspected to be narcotic drugs along the Tema–Ada road.
The suspect, identified as Bismark Kpormeno, was arrested on Sunday, May 31, 2026, during an operation conducted by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit.
According to a police statement, the suspect was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck when officers signaled him to stop. However, he reportedly failed to comply and attempted to flee the scene.
Police pursued the vehicle and eventually apprehended the suspect at Bondase.
A subsequent search of the truck led to the discovery of twelve sacks and eighty parcels of compressed plant materials suspected to be Indian hemp. The substances were allegedly concealed in a container and wrapped with sellotape.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the suspected narcotics were loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and were being transported to Ada.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the vehicle and the exhibits have been impounded for evidential purposes.
The Tema Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the region. The Command also urged members of the public to support law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
