The Ghana Police Service has issued a strong warning to final-year Senior High School students writing the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), urging them to celebrate the end of their exams responsibly and avoid any acts that could lead to criminal prosecution.
In a statement released ahead of the final paper on Friday, June 19, the Police reminded candidates nationwide to remain disciplined and law-abiding as they complete their secondary education.
The Service expressed concern over the growing trend of destructive behaviour often associated with post-examination celebrations, warning that such conduct could have long-term consequences on students’ futures.
It specifically highlighted acts such as violence, vandalism, arson, and assault, noting that offenders would not be spared.
“The Police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in such conduct,” the statement stressed.
The warning comes in the wake of recent incidents of student unrest in the Upper East Region, which led to multiple arrests.
At the Zebilla Senior High Technical School, two students were apprehended in connection with the alleged arson of a teacher’s apartment. In a separate case at Bawku Senior High School, four students were arrested for rioting, assaulting staff, and damaging both school and private property.
The Police Service is therefore calling on students, parents, guardians, and school authorities to work together to ensure peaceful and disciplined celebrations after the examinations.
