President John Dramani Mahama has commenced a four-day State Visit to the Republic of Belarus following an invitation from Belarusian President Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko.
The visit, which began on Friday, June 5, 2026, is expected to deepen diplomatic relations between Ghana and Belarus while opening new avenues for cooperation in agriculture, trade, education and technical development.
According to a statement issued by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, President Mahama’s itinerary includes a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral collaboration between the two countries.
Upon arrival in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, President Mahama is scheduled to lay a wreath at the Victory Monument in honour of Soviet soldiers and Belarusian resistance fighters who lost their lives during World War II.
A major highlight of the trip will be bilateral discussions between President Mahama and President Lukashenko. The two leaders are expected to hold private talks before leading an expanded meeting involving ministers and senior government officials from both countries.
The discussions are expected to centre on strategic partnerships in key sectors including agriculture, commerce and education.
As part of efforts to advance Ghana’s industrialisation and food security agenda, President Mahama will also travel to the city of Brest, where he is expected to tour one of Belarus’ leading dairy and baby food processing facilities. The visit is intended to promote knowledge exchange and explore potential investment and agro-processing partnerships.
While in Brest, the President will visit the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex to honour the memory of Soviet defenders who resisted Nazi forces during the Second World War in 1941.
President Mahama’s itinerary will further include a visit to the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site widely recognised as one of Europe’s last remaining ancient forests.
The two countries are also expected to sign at least four bilateral agreements during the visit to enhance institutional cooperation and support mutual economic growth.
President Mahama is expected to conclude the visit and return to Accra on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
