The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has reported a concerning decline in the production of water supply, sewage and waste management, which has dropped by 6.9% in the second quarter of 2024, down from a reported 8.7% in the previous quarter.
This alarming trend highlights potential challenges in the country’s infrastructure and environmental health, as effective waste management is crucial for public safety and ecological sustainability.
Despite this setback, the overall year-on-year growth rate for production across all goods and services in the sector stood at 8.2% in the second quarter of 2024, with a quarter-on-quarter growth rate of 0.3%.
These reports has raised concerns and demand for the need of urgent attention and strategic planning to meet these issues which forms part of the fundamental well-being of citizens.
