The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has officially named Professor Christian Agyare as its new Vice-Chancellor, with his tenure set to begin on August 1, 2026.
His appointment was confirmed on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in a statement issued by the university’s Registrar, Benjamin B. Owusu, following the 292nd Special Meeting of the University Council.
According to the announcement, Council members approved the decision after reviewing and adopting the recommendations of the Search Committee tasked with identifying a new Vice-Chancellor. Professor Agyare is expected to serve a four-year term, running from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2030.
Professor Agyare, a specialist in pharmaceutics, currently holds the position of Provost of the College of Health Sciences at KNUST. He is regarded in academic circles for his contributions to pharmaceutical research as well as his experience in university administration.
He will succeed Prof. (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, who has led the institution since August 2020. Her tenure comes to an end after six years at the helm of the university.
The transition follows weeks of public debate over the selection process, with some reports alleging political interference. However, the university firmly rejected such claims, insisting that the process remained transparent and adhered strictly to its governance procedures.
With the confirmation now settled, attention is expected to shift toward the incoming Vice-Chancellor’s leadership direction as KNUST continues to strengthen its position in research, innovation, and higher education across the sub-region.
