The Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko Computer, has clarified that the death of a party branch executive in Kpandai did not occur at the venue of an NDC meeting held in the constituency.
Speaking in an interview on ABC Midday, Mr. Tanko explained that the party had earlier held a meeting with all its branch executives in Kpandai, describing the engagement as peaceful and productive.
According to him, representatives from all 152 branches in the constituency were present at the meeting, where party leaders outlined strategies and discussed plans ahead of upcoming political activities.
“We had a meeting with all our branch executives. The 152 branches were all in Kpandai, and we had a very fruitful discussion with them, giving them our strategy and what we intend doing,” he stated.
Mr. Tanko stressed that the meeting ended without incident and that participants had dispersed safely. He noted that the tragic incident occurred approximately two hours after the meeting had concluded.
“The meeting finished, they left, and about two hours later the unfortunate incident happened,” he said.
Providing further details, Mr. Tanko said he had been informed that the deceased was attacked by a swarm of bees in a compound away from the meeting grounds.
“I’m told he was attacked by bees in some compound somewhere. It didn’t happen at the meeting grounds,” he clarified.
Describing the incident as deeply unfortunate, Mr. Tanko expressed the party’s condolences to the bereaved family, noting that the deceased was an active and committed branch executive.
“It’s very unfortunate. We are commiserating with the family; we are feeling their pain. This is a time he should be there with us to do this work. He’s one of our branch executives,” he added.
The incident comes amid heightened political activity in Kpandai, where the Electoral Commission has scheduled a parliamentary election rerun for Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
The rerun follows a High Court ruling that annulled the results of the 2024 parliamentary election due to irregularities in the collation process.
The contest is expected to feature the same candidates who participated in the 2024 polls, with both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) intensifying campaigns in the constituency as the rerun date approaches.
