The Minority in Parliament has called on the government to shift funds from the Office of Government Machinery to the economic sector to align national spending with development priorities.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi and minority spokesperson on economy, criticized the government for failing to match its budget with manifesto promises, revealing that only 25 out of 68 economic commitments—about 30%—were reflected in the 2025 budget.

“They should try and build a bridge of coherence between the manifesto and the policy they brought. It’s like they’ve already abandoned their manifesto,” he remarked.

Oppong Nkrumah further stressed that national resources should be redirected to key economic sectors that directly impact growth and job creation.

“They should change the locations and move the monies from the Office of Government Machinery to the economic sectors,” he urged.

Despite this critique, he assured that the Minority would support the 2025 budget, even if the government fails to implement the recommended changes.

However, he emphasized that making the right adjustments would ensure the budget benefits Ghanaians.

“It will be better if they make the corrections so that what we are supporting is good,” he concluded.
