The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has urged the government to scrap the COVID levy, special import tax, and other excessive charges that negatively impact business growth.
According to Dr. Joseph Obeng, President of GUTA, these taxes impose a heavy financial burden on businesses, forcing many traders to seek alternative means to bypass them.
This, he warned, ultimately results in revenue losses for the government rather than boosting collections.
Dr. Obeng stressed the need for a more stable and business-friendly tax system, arguing that lower taxes would encourage greater compliance and stimulate economic activity.
His call aligns with GUTA’s consistent push for tax reductions to create a more favorable trading environment.
Speaking on ABC News GH, he reiterated that the current tax regime stifles entrepreneurship and must be revised to support business sustainability and economic growth.
