The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has revealed a scheme to reward citizens who assist the company in recovering money owed to the power producer.
Speaking to the media on Monday, the Managing Director of ECG, Samuel Dubik Mahama disclosed that ECG will pay a 6% reward to anyone who reports an illegal connection leading to a recovery.
“It is 6%, you get a 6% commission. We are coming to publicise it. If you report anyone for engaging in illegal connection you will be given 6% out of the recovered bill,” he said.
Over the past weeks, the ECG are on a nationwide crackdown operation to recover over GH5.7 billion in unpaid bills. According to the MD, the exercise has so far resulted in the recovery of about GH¢2.5 billion.
Mr. Dubik claimed that the exercise was required since the company’s debt levels had gotten to unsustainable levels. As a result, it was critical to make sure that revenue collection was enforced to protect the company’s reputation.
