Evans Otumfuo, President of the Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana (MMAAG), has called on the government to reassess how mobile money operations are managed in the country.
Speaking on ABC News Gh on Monday, February 17, 2025, Otumfuo stressed that while the government focuses on the revenue generated from mobile money, it must also recognize and protect the agents responsible for delivering these services.
His comments come in the wake of a tragic attack on a mobile money agent, which resulted in her death.
Otumfuo emphasized that the government needs to shift its focus from just profits to ensuring the safety and well-being of the agents
He urged both the government and industry stakeholders to take immediate action to address the security concerns surrounding mobile money operations.
The MMAAG president’s call highlights the growing risks faced by agents who serve as critical links to financial services in underserved areas.
