The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured Ghanaians that a revised Provisional Voter Register (PVR) will be made available within the next two weeks or earlier to enable stakeholders to review it for any discrepancies.
EC Chairperson Jean Mensa, speaking during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra, emphasized that the commission is dedicated to a transparent electoral process.
“We should within the next two weeks or earlier present you with the revised provisional voter register, to allow you to review it and to inform of any discrepancies identified,” she stated, adding that the register will also be posted online for the public to report any issues.
Addressing allegations of bias and lack of transparency, Mensa defended the EC’s record, stressing that the commission has been open in its dealings, contrary to claims of favoring particular political parties. “We do not have anything to hide.
Whether it is the balloting, we’ve been open with the media,” she asserted, adding that the EC has been more transparent than previous administrations.
She called out the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to implement similar openness in 2020.
“I do not believe this was the case in 2020,” she criticized. Mensa also highlighted that the IPAC meetings are being broadcast to the world, showcasing the EC’s commitment to transparency.
The EC announced that 18,772,795 valid voters are expected to participate in the December general elections, with 708,282 new voters and 332,110 transferred voters.
The updated register includes 2,167 proxy voters, 32,974 applicants on the exceptions list, and 26,798 applicants on the multiples list.
Despite these updates, Mensa acknowledged that some minor errors persist, which the EC aims to resolve before the finalization of the register.
“This is the best we can do, and we hope that we can improve on it. Our system is robust,” she concluded.
