Outspoken political scientist and senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, has issued a bold call to the party’s leadership to expel corrupt members as the only way to restore integrity and public trust.
With the NPP gearing up for its crucial National Delegates Conference, Dr. Amoako Baah warned that failing to act decisively on corruption within the party risks not only its image but its future.
Speaking on ABC News Ghana, he singled out Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, accusing him of amassing unexplained wealth.
“The bad ones should be weeded out. Afenyo-Markin is one, I can tell you that,” he stated. According to him, protecting or tolerating such individuals sends the wrong signal to the public and dilutes the party’s founding values.
“Without Ghana there will be no NPP, so if someone is doing the country wrong, they should be sacked,” he said in a fiery commentary that has since stirred reactions within party ranks.
His remarks come amid growing public dissatisfaction with the political class and increasing scrutiny on government and parliamentary figures for issues related to wealth accumulation, corruption, and abuse of office.
Dr. Amoako Baah emphasized that if the NPP wants to survive and win the trust of Ghanaians again, it must cleanse itself from within.
“The party should take a position. They should know right from wrong,” he stressed, adding that the conference is a prime opportunity for reform.
His statements tie into broader concerns he raised about the NPP’s internal culture, especially the monetisation of politics.
According to Dr. Amoako Baah, the party’s current direction is being distorted by financial power rather than ideological discipline—a claim that leads into his more damning assertion below.
