Ningo Prampram Member of Parliament, Samuel Nartey George, is calling on Parliament to urgently fast-track the approval process for the resubmitted anti-LGBTQ+ bill to pave the way for its presentation to President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking strongly against Ghana’s recent abstention from a United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) vote, the lawmaker described the move as a betrayal of the country’s stated position and his personal conscience.

“We MUST at all times make our position clear and unambiguous,” he wrote on his X page.
Sam George insisted that Ghana’s cultural values and the innocence of its children must not be sacrificed under any guise, reaffirming his commitment to pushing the legislation through.
“The innocence of Ghanaian children and the sanctity of our values cannot be traded for any consideration,” he emphasized, reiterating that the bill — which was passed by the previous Parliament but not signed by former President Akufo-Addo — has been resubmitted in its original form.
His comments come in the wake of widespread public confusion after Ghana abstained from a vote on a draft resolution at the 59th UNHRC session.
Clarifying the government’s position, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the vote was not to support LGBTQ+ rights but to extend the mandate of the UN Independent Expert on sexual orientation and gender identity.
The Ministry said Ghana’s abstention was rooted in the 1992 Constitution’s anti-discrimination clauses.
