Communications Minister Sam George has ordered the dismissal of nearly 100 staff members of Ghana Post Limited, citing an illegal recruitment process that took place after the December 7, 2024, elections.
The minister stated that the affected individuals were employed without following due procedures, a situation he is determined to rectify.
“If you are a minister and you take over a ministry that has 3,117 staff in the ministry and its agencies, and 600 were recruited after December 7, you cannot expect me to come and inherit such a mess, and so the rationalisation is ongoing,” he told the press on Tuesday.
He added, “Today, I have authorised a termination of a few more at Ghana Post, almost 100 that were done post-election.”
Sam George emphasized his commitment to cleaning up the ministry and ensuring a streamlined and efficient workforce. He noted that the irregular recruitment had led to inefficiencies, with positions being filled without proper vetting. “I am on a mission to clean up the ministry to make sure that it is lean and efficient and carries out its work,” he stressed.
The government has been reviewing and reversing numerous post-election public sector appointments, arguing that many of them were carried out without following the necessary protocols. Sam George’s latest move aligns with this broader effort to restore order and accountability in state institutions.
