Minister for Sports and Recreation Designate, Kofi Adams, has proposed the introduction of a pension scheme for active athletes and sportsmen, ensuring they enjoy financial security after retirement.
Speaking during his vetting, Adams acknowledged that many athletes struggle financially after their playing careers, due to the short-lived nature of professional sports.
“We want to encourage active athletes and sportsmen to contribute to a pension scheme,” he stated
. He emphasized that the initiative would help athletes prepare for life beyond sports, allowing them to retire comfortably without financial distress. If implemented, this scheme would provide long-term financial benefits, encouraging Ghanaian athletes to save and invest while they are still actively competing.
