The Country Director of the Africa Centre for Digital Information, Hafiz Toyyib, has defended the government’s decision to conduct a SIM re-registration exercise, describing it as a necessary step in the era of digital transformation.
Speaking on ABC News GH, he emphasized that both infrastructure and data are critical components of this transformation, stressing the importance of building a robust and secure digital system.
His comments follow the minister’s announcement of a new SIM re-registration exercise, which will be conducted online, eliminating the need for in-person registration.
Hafiz Toyyib also urged the government to establish a unified data system for all Ghanaians.
According to him, such a system would facilitate accurate SIM registration processes and support the effective implementation of digital initiatives.
Mr. Toyyib emphasized that a secure and centralized digital ecosystem is essential for reducing digital corruption and curbing other unethical practices that take place in the digital space.
