The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has approved the disbursement of loans to 9,433 students across 62 public and private tertiary institutions in Ghana.
This marks a significant decision under the leadership of Dr. Saajida Shiraz, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of SLTF, since assuming office.
Acknowledging previous delays in loan disbursements, Dr. Shiraz apologized to affected students and assured them that her administration is committed to timely financial support for eligible beneficiaries.
As part of her vision for an improved financing system, Dr. Shiraz reaffirmed her commitment to President John Dramani Mahama’s education agenda by facilitating the smooth implementation of the SLTF Plus policy.
This initiative aims to enhance financial support for students and improve the overall efficiency of the fund.
She described her first days in office as productive, filled with strategic discussions and engagements with key stakeholders, including student leaders at the National Education Forum on education financing.
Dr. Shiraz has also begun restructuring efforts within the SLTF, working closely with the newly appointed Deputy CEO, Kojo Danquah, and visiting zonal and regional offices to assess operational challenges.
She has also made public interest interventions to ensure the fund operates more efficiently. With these early actions, Dr. Shiraz has set a clear agenda for a more responsive and accessible SLTF, assuring students that they can expect improved service delivery in the coming months.
